Why has the dark always called to you?
Maybe you’ve always loved the things that go bump in the night. Old cemeteries, ghost stories, strange dreams, divination, the dead, the feeling of October when the nights grow longer and the whole world seems to get a little stranger.
It’s easy to write these things off as personality. You love Halloween. You’ve always been a little morbid. You’re the one who wants to know what everyone else would rather leave alone.
But what if that pull has been leading you somewhere?
There is an old path in witchcraft that leads downward – toward the gods beneath the earth, the dead, the dream, the hidden world, and the parts of our own power that aren’t found in the light.

ENTERING THE UNDERWORLD
OCTOBER 1 · THE DESCENT BEGINS
Enter the mysteries of the Underworld and choose the deity who will guide you through the month.
OCTOBER 5 · MAKING CONTACT
Begin working directly with your chosen deity and learn how to recognize, record, and deepen the contact that follows.
OCTOBER 8/9 · PRACTICE HALL
Gather live with the Society to experiment with one of the magical skills we’ll carry into the month’s work.
OCTOBER 15 · THE UNDERWORLD INITIATION
We gather live for the central ceremony of the month: a ritual descent into the realm below and an encounter with the deity who has been guiding you there.
OCTOBER 16 · DREAM INCUBATION
Take the work into sleep, using an old method of intentional dreaming to seek contact, answers, and encounters beyond waking consciousness.
OCTOBER 21 · GRAVEYARD MAGICK
Guest teacher Toni Coe joins the Society for a live class on graveyard magic, followed by cemetery fieldwork of your own.
OCTOBER 29 · CLOSING CIRCLE + ALL HALLOWS’ EVE
We return from the Underworld together and close the month’s work on the threshold of Halloween.
THROUGHOUT OCTOBER · THE ROLL OF THE DEAD
Add the names of your beloved dead to the Society’s Roll of the Dead, to be remembered and carried through our October rites.
AND OCTOBER IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
The Underworld is where we’re going this month. Then the Society moves on.
Over the course of a year, you might work with Hecate at the crossroads, descend with an Underworld god, commune with the ancestral dead, practice glamour magic, learn automatic writing, experiment with trance, invoke the old gods, enter ceremony, read strange old texts, and discover entire corners of witchcraft you didn’t know existed.

Witchcraft gets more interesting when we actually practice it.
Inside the Shadow Society, hundreds of witches are doing exactly that. We’re practicing divination and spirit communication, learning to sense and raise energy, entering ritual, working with gods and spirits, trying techniques we’ve never used before, and then coming back together to compare notes.

A mystery school is a tradition going back thousands of years to ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome. Unlike conventional spiritual education, mystery schools teach through direct experience — initiations, rituals, and guided encounters with the hidden parts of yourself. The Shadow Society is a modern online mystery school that carries these methods forward.
Most members start noticing shifts within the first month or two — things like understanding patterns in their behavior that never made sense before, feeling less reactive, or having experiences during ceremony that reveal something they’d been carrying for years. After several months of working through mystery school initiation ceremonies, the changes tend to be deeper: a quieter mind, clearer sight, and a sense of actually knowing yourself instead of performing a version of yourself.
What if I’m new to the occult? Will I feel lost?
No. The monthly mysteries are designed so that both newer and experienced practitioners can engage meaningfully. You don’t need to have a background in witchcraft or the occult. You need to be willing to do the work and sit with what comes up.
Expect about two to three hours per week for the lectures and practicums. Live ceremonies are once a month and typically run about an hour. Everything is recorded if you can’t attend live.
