WHAT IS A MYSTERY SCHOOL?
For thousands of years, mystery schools were the places where people went to learn what couldn’t be taught in public. The ancient mystery schools of Greece, Egypt, and Rome didn’t hand out textbooks, but they put you through experiences. Practitioners learned through initiations, descents, and encounters with the gods that fundamentally changed how they saw themselves and the world, at the core.
What was taught in mystery schools was knowledge as well as transformation. You went in one person and came out another, not because someone told you what to believe, but because you saw it for yourself.
The word “mystery” comes from the Greek myein, meaning to close the eyes, to turn inward. That’s the whole point of the mysteries. They aren’t hidden because someone’s gatekeeping them, but are hidden because they live inside you, and the only way to find them is to go looking deep within one’s own shadow.
A modern mystery school carries this tradition forward. The curriculum changes, the gods may have many different faces, but the method is the same: guided experience, deep and permanent initiation, and others walking the same path.
The Shadow Society is an online mystery school built on these principles. Here, you’ll find the old ways made accessible, deep rituals that activate the shadow within the self. This is the descent into shadow.

Each month we descend into a different mystery: the Underworld, the Ancestors, the Witches’ Sabbat, the Crone. You’ll study the mythology, learn the rituals, and do the work that lets you embody these teachings. We move through different mysteries each month because every one reveals a different piece of you.

Live Ceremonies & Circles
Once a month, we gather for live ceremony: invocations, group rituals, descents into the mysteries together. You’ll also have a (separate) more casual monthly circle for questions, discussion, and integration, plus the Society Forum where practitioners share experiences, ask questions, and walk this path alongside you.
Weekly Practicums
Each week you receive a practicum: rituals, shadow work, offerings, invocations. You’ll follow your own path into the mysteries to find yourself, piece by piece. Expect 1-2 hours a week on the practices and lectures.
The Archives
You’ll have access to years of occult study — past monthly mysteries, shadow work training, deity partnerships, and ritual magic workshops. Think of it as your personal grimoire, growing every month.
After a year of this work, you start to understand that vaguely unhappy feeling at dinner. It might not disappear, but it’s no longer this strange, unknowable thing, because you’ve discovered what lies in the shadow.
And by doing that, something else starts to happen. You begin to see people clearly: why your mother says what she says, and why you react the way you do, and what’s really happening beneath the surface of things, of other people, of the world, of yourself.

WHY AN ONLINE MYSTERY SCHOOL?
The structure of the Shadow Society follows the ancient mystery school model: not lectures you passively consume, though your own study is a part of the coursework, but experiences you move through. The monthly mystery school initiation arcs are designed as a descent. You don’t just read about the Crone or the Underworld or the Ancestors. You meet them. You do the rituals. You sit with what comes up in your own shadow.
The online format means you can do this work from anywhere, on your own schedule, with a community of practitioners going through the same mysteries at the same time. The live ceremonies happen in real time, but everything is recorded. The weekly practicums are yours to work through at your own pace.
This is mystery school initiation adapted for modern practitioners who can’t relocate to a temple in Greece but still want the real thing.

I spent years in new age spirituality asking “what does this actually mean?” before I found the answer in my own shadow.
It started with a psychology degree that brought up more questions than answers, then my first real mystery school initiation rituals with Lilith, Persephone, and Hades. When Hecate arrived, everything clicked. What I’d been seeking was the descent — the thread running through mystery traditions for millennia.
