Building confidence in your magical abilities takes practice, patience, and trust in yourself.
Whether you’re just starting out or have been practicing for a while, it’s totally normal to feel unsure at times. Magic is deeply personal, and building that confidence isn’t always about doing more—it’s about trusting what you already know and growing from there.
Here are 10 ways to boost your magical confidence, starting from the most advanced and moving to simpler steps to build up your trust in your abilities.
10. Keep Expanding Your Knowledge
The more you learn, the more confident you’ll feel. It’s easy to feel stuck when you’re not sure what to do next, but expanding your knowledge of magical systems, techniques, or correspondences can give you a sense of direction. Dive into books, take a course, or experiment with different methods.
With every new bit of knowledge, you’re adding to your magical toolbox, which naturally boosts your confidence because you know how to handle more situations.
And, if you’re feeling discouraged with a certain kind of magic, set it aside for a bit and try something else.
9. Embrace Failure as Part of Learning
If a spell doesn’t work out the way you hoped, don’t get discouraged. It happens to everyone, even the most seasoned practitioners. Instead of seeing it as a failure, view it as a lesson.
Magic is a mix of art and science, and each experience teaches you something new about your practice. Maybe it’s about timing, energy, or even your own mindset. There are so many variables that you simply can’t get it right every time. But you can get better at it.
Failure is just part of the process and a valuable one at that. It helps you grow and ultimately builds confidence because you learn what works and what doesn’t for you.
8. Celebrate Your Successes
Whenever you have a win—no matter how big or small—celebrate it! Whether it’s a quick intention manifesting or a big ritual going just right, take a moment to acknowledge it.
Confidence builds when you recognize the moments when your magic works. It’s easy to focus on what didn’t work, but it’s equally important to celebrate your progress. This recognition will reinforce your belief in your abilities and inspire you to keep going.
And honestly, there is nothing cooler than the feeling you get when you see a spell manifest in the real world. It makes all of this so worth it.
7. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
It’s really easy to look at other witches or practitioners and feel like you’re not doing enough or aren’t as skilled.
But remember, everyone’s magical journey is different. What works for someone else might not be your style, and that’s okay. Your path is unique, and confidence comes from embracing that.
Instead of comparing, focus on what feels right for you and let your magic unfold naturally. Remember that you need to follow the ribbon inside of you to be truly powerful.
6. Work with Deities or Spirits
Feeling connected to a deity or spirit guide can give your practice a serious confidence boost. When you build a relationship with a deity, their energy can help amplify your work. Deities often guide us in ways that help us better understand ourselves, and that guidance can bring a deeper level of confidence.
For example, working with Hecate might help you confront your fears, while Aphrodite might push you to embrace self-love. Over time, you’ll feel more certain in your magical abilities as you receive validation from these energies.
I love working with deities and spirits because the energy is so unique to me. It gives me a sense of confidence I just can’t get from reading about other people’s experiences. It truly is first-hand knowledge.

5. Focus on Energy, Not Results
Magic doesn’t always show up in obvious ways, and that can be frustrating. But rather than fixating on the immediate outcome, pay attention to the energy you’re putting into your spellwork.
Sometimes, the results of your magic take time or show up in unexpected ways. The important thing is to trust that the energy is doing its work. By focusing on the energy itself, rather than the result, you’ll feel more confident knowing that your magic is active, even if it’s not always obvious right away.
4. Trust Your Intuition
A lot of magical confidence comes down to trusting yourself. If you’re feeling drawn to use a specific herb, tool, or spell structure, trust that instinct. Magic is deeply intuitive, and the more you rely on that inner knowing, the more in-tune you’ll become with your own power.
You don’t always need to follow a guidebook or someone else’s instructions perfectly—sometimes, the best magic happens when you follow your gut. The more you do this, the more confidence you’ll build in your own abilities.
3. Track Your Progress
Keeping a magical journal can be a game-changer when it comes to building confidence. Write down the spells, rituals, or magical practices you perform, and then note the outcomes.
Over time, you’ll start to notice patterns—maybe certain days of the week are more powerful for you, or specific tools give your spells an extra boost. And you might find that certain kinds of spells are more successful for you. For example, I know candle spells always work super well for me, but sigil spells are 50/50.
Seeing your successes written out will remind you of how far you’ve come. Plus, it’s a great way to look back on your journey when you need a little confidence boost.
2. Consistency is Key
Just like with any other skill, the more you practice, the more confident you become. Try weaving magic into your daily life. This can be as simple as setting an intention each morning or lighting a candle with purpose at night.
The more often you incorporate magic into your routine, the more natural it will feel—and the more you’ll trust in your abilities. Consistency is everything when it comes to building your confidence.
One of my favorite ways to get consistent is to challenge myself to do a spell a day for 30 days. I keep a journal and see what works.
1. Start Small and Build Up
If you’re feeling unsure, don’t be afraid to start small. There’s no need to dive into the deep end of magical practices right away.
Begin with simple spells, like a protection jar or a daily grounding practice, and build up from there. Each small success will boost your confidence and prepare you for more complex rituals.
Before you know it, you’ll feel ready to take on bigger challenges, and you’ll have the track record to back it up.
